Healthcare In Supermarkets – Dream On

4th April 2008

Telemedicus has begun providing DREAMS technology for educational purposes to My Healthy Access Clinics located in Wal-Mart Supercenters.

My Healthy Access operates non-emergency wellness clinics located in Houston area Wal-Mart stores. The primary focus of these clinics is to provide immediate medical diagnosis and treatment for minor illnesses such as colds, flu, strep throats, sinusitis, minor injuries and infections as well as administering preventative vaccinations. The price is reasonable and as no appointment is necessary, most patients can be in and out in 20 minutes. MHA currently leases space in six Houston area Wal-Mart Supercenters for its My Healthy Access branded clinics.

“We are excited about being the first retail clinic operator to receive a demonstration model of the Telemedicus DREAMS technology. When fully operational the DREAMS technology will allow us to offer services to patients who would otherwise not be able to afford this level of medical attention,” said Cindy Morrissey, Director of Clinic Operations for My Healthy Access. “The ability to interface immediately with a specialist for any condition broadens the scope of services our clinics can provide, while also saving the patient additional time and expense.”

“The retail clinic model is a rapidly growing business, and we seek to place our telemedicine technology in these clinics for basic primary and specialty physician care,” said Telemedicus Chief Executive Officer Thomas Cloud.

He added, “By educating the clinics on the benefits of DREAMS, it also allows us to understand their needs as it relates to their specific operations. We believe this will lead to interest from other retail clinic operators such as Target, CVS/Minute Clinic and RediClinic located in Wal-Mart.”

Telemedicus’ Disaster Relief and Emergency Medical Services DREAMS technology turns practically any ambulance, clinic or medical transportation vehicle into a mobile trauma center or telehealth location. Through the Intelligent Communications Manager (ICM), the doctor is able to provide treatment immediately through the medical technician because the doctor can see the patient and diagnostic data through the Telemedicus system.

The design and development of the next generation of this life-saving technology is being completed by Texas A&M, the original developers of the DREAMS technology.
