9th October 2008 RF Code has announced that it has received certification from IBM for its Zone Manager integration module, which provides seamless, real-time physical asset inventory, location information, and wireless sensor information to IBM Websphere Premises Server applications. This news follows closely on the heels of an earlier announcement that RF Code is certified Ready for IBM Tivoli Asset Management for IT. RF Code’s approach of providing an easy integration path means that data center customers of IBM Premises, IBM Tivoli Maximo, Eracent and other market leading asset management and enterprise systems get the instant information they need to better manage their IT assets. Also this week, IDS Microchip, an RFID semiconductor company, has announced that its universal smart label chip, IDS-SL13A, is being implemented by the pharmaceutical industry as the first practical way to automatically track, monitor, time-stamp and record information about unseen changes such as extreme temperature that could impact the quality of environmentally sensitive goods during transport. The chip, which is up to 10 times more economical than current solutions, lets companies immediately know shipment quality at arrival – without direct human physical contact. German-based Maxsol is implementing IDS-SL13A features in its FCC-approved ISO 15693 reader firmware, a move expected to save significant time and expense for its pharmaceutical customers. According to Max Schneider, chief executive officer at Maxsol, “During the last few years, several of our pharmaceutical customers requested a way to send data from a CPU via an interface to the air interface, to set up and read out data using an RFID system. Having the features of IDS Microchip’s smart label chip in our reader firmware provides a cost-effective solution for assessing the quality of sensitive medications arriving by truck, ship or plane.” Meanwhile, InfoLogix claims that the first successful implementation in North America of a mobile wireless application for the healthcare industry running on the SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 offering is now live at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas. With the SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 Ramp-Up process that started in August 2007, BCM looked to replace the time consuming and complicated manual process of tracking and updating its inventory. The SAP Ramp-Up program provided the right framework for Baylor. The solution developed by InfoLogix allows BCM to capture and record data in real-time, automatically uploading the latest identification and location information into the organization's tracking system, which runs on the SAP ERP application. SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.1 provides BCM the utmost in inventory feedback, accuracy and asset management operations.
